History of SKT
Save Kids Trust was born from the determination and compassion of its Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Sharwan Saini. Growing up in a marginalized family in Rajasthan, India, Dr. Sharwan’s life was shaped by his mother’s suffering from a chronic illness and his family’s inability to afford medical care. At just nine years old, this profound experience ignited his lifelong dream—to become a doctor and serve those in need.
Despite numerous personal, cultural, and institutional challenges, Dr. Sharwan persevered, completing his secondary education in India and eventually earning his medical degree in Tajikistan, while at the same time learning Russian, in 2002. Upon returning to Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, he began working in a private hospital. It was there, just steps away from the hospital, that he encountered an informal housing settlement ravaged by tuberculosis and other preventable diseases. Deeply moved, Dr. Sharwan convinced his hospital’s leadership to provide free tuberculosis treatment, marking the humble beginnings of Save Kids Trust.
In 2003, Dr. Sharwan moved to New Delhi to further his medical career. There, Save Kids Trust evolved through innovative “pop-up” medical clinics held in informal settlements. For one or two evenings at a time, Dr. Sharwan and dedicated volunteers set up temporary clinics in informal settlements, treating long lines of children and families for a range of health issues. These mobile clinics brought much-needed care to communities with limited access to medical services.

However, Dr. Sharwan soon realized that treating illness alone wasn’t enough. True well-being for children depended on supporting their entire families and providing educational opportunities. In response, he launched after-school programs in these same settlements to teach essential skills—such as sitting attentively, raising hands, lining up properly, and practicing basic hygiene. These programs fostered trust and stability in the community, encouraging entire families to seek medical care at the clinics.
Save Kids Trust was officially registered as a charitable trust by the Indian government in 2007. That year, Dr. Sharwan married Dr. Rinku Saini, who would become a vital partner in the organization’s work. By 2011, the couple returned to Jaipur to concentrate efforts locally, with New Delhi programs gradually handed over to aligned organizations.
In 2010, Dr. Sharwan set a bold vision: the “20,000 in 2020” goal, aiming to provide ongoing medical care to 20,000 individuals by the year 2020. This milestone was brought to life in 2012 when Save Kids Trust opened its first permanent medical clinic in Jaipur—right in the same informal settlement where Dr. Sharwan had first worked a decade earlier. The community welcomed him warmly; children he had cared for years before were now adults with families of their own, proud to see this lasting commitment.
Today, that first clinic alone serves over 8,000 people. With two additional clinics now operating in Jaipur, Save Kids Trust has surpassed the ambitious 20,000-in-2020 goal. The organization’s dedicated team of 20 staff, including five volunteer doctors, continues to provide compassionate care and education to underserved communities. Construction began in August 2025 on our 4th clinic.
